How Do Companies Make Money?
Hi! I'm a big company! I'm going to buy a big expensive platform for my website just because the company that makes it says it's great. Never mind that most of it's public facing site features are pretty half baked at this point. Now that we own this, let's not use any of its functionality. Let's just ask for simple things that are now much more complicated because of the platform!

Hi big company. I'm Alan. More times than not, you can find me eating or trying to eat. I often steal from refrigerators and sometimes drink out of other peoples soda when they aren't looking (based on the type of soda/cola).

Hi big company. I'm Dane.

I tried to avoid you at all costs and, now that I'm out of college and am employed in the field education, I feel like there is no escaping you (if you want to pay a mortgage or make your rent). My job at a high school has many of the same ridiculous happenings as you, big company. Except, when I do things like play AFI songs (which, by the way, I'm doing tomorrow), I can hide behind phrases like, "I'm just trying to think of what's best for our children."

The breadth of the ridiculousness stretches across not just cubicles, though, but communities; since schools are funded by property taxes, all sorts of know-it-alls think they can do our jobs and remind us often.

Also, sometimes I think that adhering to a strict class schedule has sucked my creativity from me, which is why I'm copying my brother's idea...

But let's face it, big company...I don't really know you. And I'm glad I don't. Because, despite the occasional day overflowing with frustration and ridiculousness, it's still fulfilling. My students make me laugh and I'm constantly learning. It's fun being a teacher. Plus, I get Casimir Pulaski Day off...

Hello there big company. Remember me? We used to be real close until you sucked the life out of me. But I've moved on now. I still have to deal with your kind every once in a while. It's ok though, because without you, I'm able to really enjoy my career, constantly expand my knowledge, and wear jeans and a t-shirt every day.

To answer your question, Dave. You'd be surprised at how much money people spend on stupid shit. That's how we make money.

All the best,
Big company
