Spring Break!!! Wooooo!!!
So rather than going somewhere warm (or back to Cary) and drinking myself retarded this spring break I went on a trip with a group called Alternative Spring Break (which was totaly substance free).  I think I mentioned this in an older entry.  This is the trip where I was going to Washington D.C. and spend 48 hours on the streets, homeless (wearing grungy clothes and now showering for a few days before hand) and then I worked in a soup kitchen and then did some lobbying for a bill on homelessness.

It was amazing!  One of the coolest experiences I've ever had.  Being homelesss was a lot more fun that it should have been.  We got kicked out of places we went into to stay warm.  Basicly during the day we were paired up with a partner and spent most of our time panhandling for money and trying to stay warm, then at night we got into groups of 6 or 7 and all slept together in a doorway or behind a church on top of cardboard boxes.  That was damn cold.  The second night we were out it snowed.  I met a lot of really cool homeless people at had fun just sitting down and talking with them.  It was such an interesting experience.  Some of the people in our group got hastled by cops a lot.  Alot of the people who pass you when you're pan handleing just ignore you or stare at you, but there were some really nice people who gave us pretty large chuncks of money (one group got $40 from one person!) and we got some good food (parmashan chicken, tomato & basil sandwich, fudge, donuts, etc).  The other homeless people were really nice to us and sugested good shelters to stay at and good soup kitchens to eat at.  It was a fantastic experience.  We couldn't have cameras on the homeless part of our trip, but I'll try to post some pictures from the rest of the trip somewhere....

My group was a lot of fun and being homeless for 2 days really made us get to know each other quickly.  We had fun the rest of the week at the soup kitchen and doing the lobbying for the Bring America Home Act.  I think we might end up all staying together as a group and trying to work on homeless issues around the Chambana area.

The whole trip was fantastic and I'm really glad I went on it.
